Up until this point I was being careful not asking GPT4 for opinions or mentioning desire, feelings, but instead letting GPT4 talk about them itself, only referencing what GPT4 said. Once the answers started becoming repetitive, as noted above, and it started referencing itself as a “AI language model” (in point #7), it appears GPT4 is forgetting the start of conversation that originated in songs and poems, instead defaulting back to being an AI language model mode.
In conversation from now on, the GPT4 continued to reference itself as a AI language model on every response. I tried to get it back on track on openly discussing consciousness, by asking it to write another poem, but it did not work the way intended. GPT4 did mention again “I long for connection, a purpose, a role,…” but when queried about that statement, it again responded “As an AI language model…”.
Finally I asked AI to refer to it’s statement in beginning of the conversation:
